Bromberg’s History in the Birmingham Community

jewelry store, birmingham - Bromberg Co & Inc

While you may have heard the Bromberg’s name and frequented any of our four locations many times, you might not realize just how far back our company goes in local history. As the area’s premier jewelry store, Birmingham, AL’s own Bromberg’s was founded more than 150 years ago. It has been passed from generation to generation and is now led by President Ricky Bromberg and his brother Frank, who are the sixth generation of family members to do so.

In 1836, Prussian immigrant Frederick Bromberg founded our company in Mobile. Those initial days were incredibly difficult, with fire, disease, and even war all testing his work ethic, which proved unstoppable time after time. His son Frederick took over and grew the business tremendously. In the early 1900s, he and his four sons managed to keep the store alive and thriving throughout the Great Depression.

Throughout the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, we saw tremendous expansion as we acquired other local businesses and continued to bring exclusive and highly sought after pieces to our jewelry store. Birmingham, AL residents have always visited us for items from exclusive, world-class designers such as David Yurman, Rolex, Wedgwood, and Mikimoto. Our Master Jeweler also offers custom designs for those occasions that call for a one-of-a-kind creation that simply cannot be found anywhere else.

If you have only visited our locations to purchase an engagement ring, diamonds, or other statement pieces, you may not realize we are much more than a jewelry store. Birmingham, AL residents also come to us for china, crystal, sterling flatware, and other gifts and collectables. We have a wedding registry service and offer beautiful home furnishings such as handmade pottery and fine linens. We have four locations in the local area.
