Real Wedding: Kristina & Garrett

This story goes way back”¦ all the way to the sixth grade, in fact. In the sixth grade, Garrett Hodges asked Kristina Davidson if she would be his girlfriend. She said yes and it lasted for a few months. The next time Garrett asked Kristina to be his girlfriend; it lasted for seven years and resulted in a marriage proposal!

The Back Story

After their brief romance in the sixth grade, Kristina and Garrett remained good friends throughout their childhood. When they got to high school, they started “hanging out” together. Appropriate for this quintessential American love story, he was the quarterback of the football team and she was the head cheerleader so they were together all the time. Kristina says that she was finding herself making excuses to stay late after practice to see Garrett and one night, after a football game, she finally recognized that she really cared for him as a boyfriend and not just a friend. After that, they started dating. She says she knew from then that she would marry Garrett one day. And on May 22, 2010, after years of difficulty, growing pains, and joy, her father was able to walk her down the aisle and she married the man of her dreams.

The Wedding

Kristina wanted a casual but elegant feel for the wedding and reception. She fell in love with The Sonnet House the moment she saw it and knew she wanted to marry Garrett there. As luck would have it, the only weekend Garrett had leave was the one day the venue had open! Kristina called on some local professionals to help her with her “country chic” dream wedding at The Sonnet House. Kristina wanted an effortless, yet elegant theme; she wanted everything to look as if it belonged in the farm style setting. Andy Hopper of KGDesigns, a division of Kathy G. & Company collaborated with Kristina on her floral design, creating a “fresh from the garden” feel with antique green hydrangea, ranunculus, Oak leaf hydrangea, Blizzard and Vendela roses, and Green Dandy cymbidium orchids for the bouquets, centerpieces, ceremony, and reception flowers. A magnificent wrought iron cross was the focal point of the outdoor ceremony. Working with blue and green as her color palette, she color coordinated linens, bridesmaids, ties for the men, favors, invitations, and candy for the favor table in a variety of rich blue and green hues.

Kathy G. & Company also supplied the catering for the reception with a traditional menu featuring Roast Beef on Homemade Rolls with Horseradish, Mashed Potato Bar with a variety of toppings, Hot Spinach & Gruyere Dip with Tortilla Chips, Stuffed Mushrooms, Crostinis with Mediterranean Toppings, and a luscious tower of fruit and cheese.

The wedding cake from Olexa’s was decorated with the antique green hydrangea and rose petals. The groom’s cake table was filled with an assortment of monogrammed Baby Bites from Pastry Arts including Caramel, Italian Crème, Turtle, Coconut, and Red Velvet flavors with icy chocolate milk and white milk shooters which were a big hit with the kids and the adults alike.

Kristina’s strapless gown had a lace bolero jacket that she wore for the ceremony; when she removed it for the reception, it looked like a completely different gown.  The Davidsons are a musical family so music was an important part of the ceremony and reception. Kristina’s father Terry is a musician and writer. Her grandfather and uncles are members of the legendary Thrasher Brothers, now in the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. Her brother John performed a song for the ceremony and her cousin, Neil Thrasher, a Country Music Association songwriter of the year known performed a new song titled “Nothing Like This” which will be the name of Rascal Flatts Summer 2010 Tour.

Garrett had photos shot with Kristina in his Navy uniform and then changed into a Mr. Burch Sand Linen suit with a paisley tie in the wedding colors. Two of the groomsmen from Garrett’s basic training battalion dressed in their Naval uniforms, the rest of the  men wore matching sand linen suits like the groom with Green Dandy cymbidium orchid boutonnieres.
