When Frederick Bromberg decided to move his family’s decades old company from Mobile to Birmingham, Alabama 120 years ago it was because Birmingham had become somewhat of a boom town, having grown from a population of only about 100 people in the 1860s to around 40 thousand at the end of the 19th century. Birmingham then boomed to more than a quarter million by the 1930s. The reason for the quick growth of “The Magic City?” The fact that Birmingham had Iron ore, coal, and limestone and shale all located within such a close proximity to each other-all the elements needed to create a fast growing iron and steel industry. We see evidence of these minerals in the limestone and shale formations and rusty iron rich soil throughout our region. Shown here is a beautiful emerald cut diamond ring resting on top of one of these Birmingham rocks that we picked up near our Mountain Brook location. . . . . . #birminghamal #photooftheday #love #shoplocal #birmingham #thisisalabama #bhm #instagrambham #bham #bhamal #magiccity #alabama #mountainbrookal #shopmountainbrookvillage #emeraldcutdiamond #diamondring #engagementring #rocksonrocksonrocks #limestone #brombergsjewelry #familyownedandopperated #since1836
