It is said that the princess cut is the 2nd most popular diamond shape after round brilliant. A relatively new cut, the princess cut was created in 1981 by Betzalel Ambar and Israel Itskowitz. GIA grading reports describe princess cut diamonds as square modified brilliants, distinguishing them from the step cut facet arrangements you find on other square diamonds like the Asscher cut. However, while displaying a good degree of brilliance, its faceting style is unique and completely different from that of a round brilliant. The Princess cut had its origins in the early “French” cut, having a step-modified “Double-French” or “Cross” cut crown and a series of unique, chevron-shaped facets in the pavilion which combine to give a distinct cross-shaped reflection when the stone is viewed directly through the table. #princesscut #engagementring #weddingwednesday #brombergsbride #brombergsjewelry #gemfacts #diamondcut #themoreyouknow
